This cycle is in memory of Billy Williamson & John Holmes who both sadly lost their battles against cancer.

Today we can all relate to being touched by Cancer, be it a family member or a friend who is battling against this illness. Four years ago we lost my father Billy and his cousin John Holmes within a few months of each other. We wanted to do something personal to raise money to help the vital research that is going on to find a cure for Cancer. Over a meal with my wife Sharon and Phil Holmes in August last year we came up with this cycle challenge!

The Benburb 2 Headingley Cycle will leave from the homeland of the Williamson/Holmes families finishing at Headingley where John graced the Blue & Amber jersey for many years. My father was an avid follower of John and frequented Leeds many times to support him. I recall these trips as one of my earliest childhood memories. This passion for Leeds Rugby & the game has remained within me and the father/son connection is now currently with 'me & my son' Charlie.

John Holmes was everything you hoped for and more, a man's man and a true ambassador for the game of rugby league. John Holmes epitomised the Leeds club, he wanted to win and to do so in style. The finale of this Charity Cycle will end at Headingley, the home of Leeds Rhinos on Friday the 2nd of May when the Rhinos will take on Wigan Warriors, in one of the biggest games of the Super League Season. Our team of Cyclists anticipate a packed Stadium in which they will enter prior to kick off to complete their fundraising efforts in memory of the Legend John Holmes and his cousin Billy Williamson.

This would not be possible without the support of Leeds Rugby Foundation and of course Leeds Rhinos.
